The Heron Collective are a band from Hobart, Australia consisting of Paul Murty on Drums and Percussion, Tony Jeffrey on Bass and Vocals and Bruce Hamill on Guitar and Vocals. Formed in 2009, the trio of friends set out to establish a sound inspired by early grunge/rock bands such as Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots, and to record as much of their progression as possible. After about a year, their sound expanded and has started to take a form of its own. Most of their songs are written from free-form marathon jams, or what they humorously refer to as "mamma-jams" - hit record, play for a few hours, press stop, then pick the progressions that stand out. Incorporating this free-play style is crucial to the bands live performance, as the guys feel that keeping flow and vibe is important. The Heron Collective are still recording, hoping to complete an album with a difference in the not too distant future.
